Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
OpenRoof (“we,” “us,” or “Company”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website, iOS app, and platform (the “Service”). Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our Service.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, name, and any profile information you provide. We also store your preferences, saved locations, and authentication credentials securely.
Usage Data
We automatically collect information about your interactions with the Service, including the metrics you view, the geographic areas you explore, the pages you visit, the time and duration of your visits, your IP address, browser type, and operating system. This helps us understand user behavior and improve the Service.
Location, Saved Market, and User Content
If you search, save, compare, watch, message about, or upload content related to a market or property, we store the information needed to provide those features, including saved ZIPs or markets, home-watch email preferences, chat content, profile photos, and uploaded community snapshots.
Public Records and Market Data
OpenRoof may process official or publicly available housing, parcel, assessment, deed, demographic, and market records. Public product APIs are privacy-preserving by default and do not expose owner names, owner mailing addresses, deed grantors, deed grantees, raw record payloads, phone numbers, emails, skip-trace data, or non-public contact enrichment.
Payment Information
For paid subscriptions, we collect billing status and transaction history needed to provide Premium access. Current payment processing is handled by Stripe on the OpenRoof website, including when a native app opens the website for plan changes. We do not directly store full credit card numbers.
Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to track your activity, maintain your session, and remember your preferences. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not function properly.
Browser Privacy Signals
Some browsers send “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signals. OpenRoof does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not currently alter core Service functionality in response to Do Not Track signals. If we add advertising or cross-context tracking in the future, we will update this policy and honor legally required opt-out signals.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- •Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- •Personalize your experience and deliver customized content
- •Process payments and send billing information
- •Send transactional emails (account updates, password resets, billing notices)
- •Send promotional emails and newsletters (with your consent; you can opt-out anytime)
- •Analyze usage patterns to improve platform performance and features
- •Enforce our Terms of Service and prevent fraud or abuse
- •Comply with legal obligations
4. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
- •Service Providers: We share data with vendors who assist in operating the platform (hosting providers, payment processors, analytics services). These vendors are contractually obligated to protect your data.
- •Legal Compliance: We may disclose your information if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process (subpoena, court order, government request).
- •Business Transfers: If OpenRoof is acquired or merged, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
- •Aggregated Data: We may share anonymized, aggregated statistics about platform usage for research and marketing purposes.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not knowingly share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Core service providers may include hosting, database, authentication, payment, email delivery, app-store billing, maps/geocoding, storage, security, logging, and customer-support vendors. These providers process information on our behalf to operate OpenRoof.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical, administrative, and physical security measures to protect your information, including encryption, secure server infrastructure, and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you use the Service at your own risk.
6. Your Privacy Rights
Access Your Data
You can view and update your account information by logging in to your profile settings.
Request Data Deletion (GDPR & CCPA)
You can initiate account deletion from Profile Settings. If you are unable to access your account, email support@openroof.app with “Data Deletion Request” in the subject line. We will process your request within 30 days and permanently delete your account, saved locations, and associated data unless we are legally required to retain limited records.
California Privacy Rights
California residents may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information; opt out of sale or sharing of personal information; limit certain uses of sensitive personal information where applicable; and exercise these rights without discrimination. OpenRoof does not sell personal information. Send requests to legal@openroof.app or support@openroof.app.
Opt-Out of Marketing Communications
You can unsubscribe from promotional or recurring emails by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or updating your preferences in your account settings. We use one-click unsubscribe headers where supported by mailbox providers.
7. Children's Privacy
OpenRoof is not intended for children under 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected data from a minor, we will delete it immediately. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us at support@openroof.app.
8. International Data Transfers
Your information is primarily processed using U.S.-based cloud infrastructure and service providers, but may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from your home country.
9. Retention
We keep account data while your account is active and for a limited period afterward as needed for security, fraud prevention, billing, backup, dispute, and legal obligations. Public market datasets and aggregated analytics may be retained independently from your account because they are not tied to your user identity. Account deletion removes or anonymizes user-owned records where feasible, except records we must retain for legal, tax, chargeback, fraud-prevention, or security reasons.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy at any time by posting an updated version on the website. The “Last updated” date at the top of this policy will be revised accordingly. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
